Penn Genomics and Sequencing Core - Molecular Profiling Laboratory

Molecular Profiling Facility (MPF) is now part of Penn Genomics and Sequencing Core (PGSC).

Two other former cores, DNA Sequncing Facility (DSF) and Next-Generation Sequencing Core (NGSC) are also part of PGSC.

At the Molecular Profiling Lab (MPL) we accept samples for DNA and  RNA molecular profiling at different scales (microarray, Fluidigm, real-time PCR), DNA and RNA extraction.

PGSC also offers-

Full service NGS from project consultation to library Preparation to sequencing and bioinformatics.

The sequencing platforms are Illumina NovaSeq 6000, NextSeq 2000 and MiSeq.

NGS QC on BioAnalyzer, TapeStation, Qubit and qPCR.

Sanger sequencing.

Molecular biology work, fragment analysis including Human Cell Line authentication, microsatellites etc.

Please contact Tapan Ganguly (Director), and Erik Toorens ( Technical Director), with inquiries.

Overview of Services

The Molecular Profiling Laboratory provides full service whole genome and targeted molecular profiling of DNA and RNA on multiple platforms. The Facility offers a range of cost and performance options suitable for a variety of experimental projects. While the Facility staff performs most of the assays, investigator-performed studies are actively encouraged through the sharing of Facility procedures, individualized training of investigators or their technical staff, and use of core equipment.

The core supports quantitative RNA profiling on Affymetrix GeneChips and the high-throughput Gene Titan instrument, Luminex FlexMap 3D, Fluidigm BioMark HD, and the ABI QS 12K real-time PCR machine.

DNA profiling is offered on Affymetrix SNP GeneChips and the high-throughput Gene Titan instrument, Fluidigm BioMark HD, and the ABI QS 12K.

The Agilent aCGH platform provides genome-wide chromosomal analysis.

Comprehensive bioinformatics services are available for datasets from the core or from any source. Analyses are customized based on experimental design and prioritized goals. Specification and delivery of results are provided via face-to-face meetings.

Core users benefit from consultation and training available throughout their projects, including during experimental design and budget development, grant preparation, sample accrual, data management and analyses, and manuscript preparation.
